Greg Murphy is in his ninth year of teaching music. He has been the band director at East Forsyth High School, in Kernersville, for the past five years. Prior to working at East, Greg was the orchestra director and assistant band director at West Forsyth High School. Greg has the distinction of being one of the few music teachers in North Carolina to have received MPA Superior ratings in concert band, jazz band, and orchestra.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Greg maintains an active schedule as a performer. He is a member of the Piedmont Wind Symphony, the North Carolina Saxophone Ensemble, the Doug Woolard Big Band, Phatt City, the Mountain Street Saxophone Trio, and is co-founder of the Southern Saxophone Retreat, a weekend camp for young saxophonists, celebrating its tenth year. Greg earned a Bachelors degree from Mars Hill College, and a Masters degree from UNCG. He has studied saxophone with Dr. Daniel Schmidt, Dr. Lee Patrick, Pat Meighan, and others.
